Regulatory Signs. Regulatory traffic signs are white with black or red letters instructing road users what they must or must not do under certain conditions. Regulatory signs indicate and reinforce traffic laws and regulations which apply either permanently or at specified times or places.
Regulatory signs include Stop Signs, Yield Signs, Speed Limit Signs, Do Not Enter, Handicapped, One Way Signs and HOV Signs.
A white background indicates a regulatory sign; yellow conveys a general warning message; green shows permitted traffic movements or directional guidance; fluorescent yellow/green indicates pedestrian crossings and school zones; orange is used for warning and guidance in roadway work zones; coral is used for incident.
The two most important regulatory signs are speed limit and curve ahead, O speed limit and lane ends.
