Topic: Facts that happened in the national war and that influenced the political life in Nicaragua.

Objective: To know the realy facts that happened in the national war and that influenced the political life in Nicaragua.

In 1848 gold was discovered in California, an area located on the pacific coast of the United States, because it became a very visited place by adventures eager to obtain wealth. But traveling through the deserts to California was very risky.

Sailing by boat to the starit of Magellan in the extreme south of America to enter the pacific ocean, meant traveling for months. It could try the crossing through Panama but there were the swamps and the yellow fever.

Faced with this problem, Cornelius Vandervilt, owner of a shipping company, fixed his gaze on the geographical position of Nicaragua and took advantage of the dispute between the two nicaraguan paryies to install  a fast route through the San Juan River, Lake Nicaragua on the isthmus from Rivas.

At that time it was necessary, the construction of an interoceanic channel that woukd allow the crossing of an ocean or through the Central American isthmus. This route turned out to be a business that generated millions in profits for Vandervilt, and the United States government took advantages to extend its economic and political interests in the Central American area.
