INTERNATIONAL KOREAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

TEACHER: Fátima Castillo.
TOPIC: Blood is life.
OBJECTIVE: To know why the blood is life for everyone.

Blood donation. ... The goals of World Blood Donor Day are: To raise awareness that individuals can save lives and improve the health of others by donating blood. To encourage people to donate blood voluntarily without compensation.

To support the operation of safe and reliable blood services.blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusions and/or made into biopharmaceutical medications by a process called fractionation (separation of whole-blood components). Donation may be of whole blood, or of specific components directly (the latter called apheresis).
Health benefits of donating blood include good health and reduced risk of cancer and hemochromatosis. It helps in reducing the risk of damage to liver and pancreas. Donating blood may help in improving cardiovascular health and reducing obesity.

There is no upper age limit for blood donation as long as you are well with no restrictions or limitations to your activities. Those younger than age 17 are almost always legal minors (not yet of the age of majority) who cannot give consent by themselves to donate blood.
Needs & Blood Supply. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation.
ACTIVITY: Answer the following questions:
1- What is blood donation?
2-What are the benefits of donating blood?
3- Who needs blood donation?
4-Who cannot donate blood?
NOTA: Enviar la asignación el día 26 de Mayo.
