TOPIC: Popular insurrection on 1978-1979.
ONJECTIVE: To know the popular insurrection on 1978-1979.

In the last months of 1977 and in the year 1978, an escalation  of armed attacks against the Somocista guard was carried out, as occurred in San Carlos on October 13,1977 and some sublvations of the population in Monimbo, Masaya, Matagalpa, Estelí and the generalization of the struggle throughout the country. the murder of the journalist Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, unworthy of the entire town and this caused the population to go out on the street en masse in protest of such atrocious murder.

After the murder of Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, on January 10,1978, new forces and social sectors, as well as political figures, joined the fight against the Dictatorship.

On August 22, 1978, a war command took over the National Palace, which was a great victory for the FSLN over the Dictatorship, since the release of political prisoners was achieved, in addition to an amount of money, and the murders were denounced through radio, press and television.

In the insurrection of the population actively participated in the insurrection. After multiple combats between the popular forces and the National Guard. On july 17,1979, Anastasio Somoza left the country, leaving Francisco Urcuyo in his place. Therefore, July 17 of each year is known as the day of joy.
