TOPIC:Protection of the air.
OBJECTIVE: To know what  I can do to protect the air.

What is Being Done to Reduce Hazardous Air Pollutants? ... These steps include: reducing toxic emissions from industrial sources; reducing emissions from vehicles and engines through new stringent emission standards and cleaner burning gasoline; and addressing indoor air pollution though voluntary programs.

The Pollution Prevention Act establishes a national policy that EPA implements:
  • Pollution should be prevented or reduced at the source whenever feasible;
  • Pollution that cannot be prevented should be recycled in an environmentally safe manner whenever feasible;
 Air Act of 1970
Four major regulatory programs affecting stationary sources were initiated: the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS, pronounced "knacks"), State Implementation Plans (SIPs), New Source Performance Standards (NSPS), and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs).
Burn fuel cleaner
  1. Keep your vehicle well-tuned and tires inflated properly to reduce exhaust emissions.
  2. Combine errands into one trip — cars pollute less when they are warmed up.
  3. Avoid idling — idling exhaust contains more pollutants than running exhaust.

Visible form of air pollution:

  • Six air pollutants. harmful to health and environment. ...
  • Most visible form of air pollution. particulate matter-- the smoke, soot, ash-- ...
  • Sulfur Dioxide. combustion of coal-- acid rain---- respiratory tract---
  • carbon monoxide. ......
